Software Developer - Entry Level

Hitchin/Hybrid - £26k

Software Developer - Entry Level

We don't get that many entry-level requirements, but this one is an absolute corker for any aspiring .Net developers.

The role is with a client we've worked with for a number of years. They're a technology company with a long track record in the Hospitality sector. They're in the early stages of developing their next generation of products and they're doing lots of new things. As part of the growth of their team, they're looking to hire someone who's embarking on their software development career and they want to help that person become an excellent engineer.

Software Developer - Entry Level - the role

Your role will initially consist of time spent learning about development and the technologies you'll need to know, using various learning methods and tools, as well as working in pairs with experienced developers, starting to put this into use. The kinds of things you'll be involved in are: -

  • Designing & delivering new features/products

  • Making improvements to the existing codebase

  • Creating automated tests

  • Getting involved in architecting solutions

  • Learning as much as you can from other team members

Software Developer - Entry Level - requirements

For this hire, our client will be looking very much at the attitude and potential of candidates, instead of the nuts and bolts of their technical experience to date.

For reference, the current tech stack includes the following. You don't have to know these (yet), though if you do, that won't hurt. Obviously, you'll need to have an interest in using these technologies going forward: -

  • .Net: WPF, ASP.Net, Blazor, Windows Services

  • SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite

  • Android / Kotlin

  • Azure

  • MongoDB, Atlas

What you will definitely need, are the following: -

  • A passion for building a career in software development

  • A decent level of understanding of software development concepts and computer science

  • A thirst and commitment for learning new things

  • Excellent teamworking skills

If you're interested, then when submitting your CV, it would be ideal if you could provide details of some of the following: -

  • Personal coding projects

  • Final projects from college/university

  • Computer Science, Maths or Physics courses you've undertaken

  • Any experience gained through industrial placements or similar

Other info...

The company is based in Hitchin, Herts. Given the amount of learning involved in the role, it would be highly beneficial for you to be in the office for three days per week. Once you're experienced, you may be able to spend more than this working remotely if preferred, but that's looking longer-term.

The starting salary is £26k. There will be a schedule of reviews over the first twelve months, with learning goals and pay increases attached.
