The opportunity

Our client is renowned for innovation in Satellite Communications, working with a wide variety of clients in the commercial and defence sectors.  They also  develop their own cutting-edge products for deployment into highly novel, global wireless communications solutions.

Due to growing demand from their customers, as well as the continued progression of their own product set, they are looking to hire a Senior Security Systems Engineer.  The role is focused on security design and implementation for satellite systems and their telemetry, tracking and command networks.

​

This role will have plenty of variety, from advising clients on the procurement of secure satellite communications systems, to the design of secure satellite communications architectures, implementation of security measures, risk assessments, evaluation and certification, and using advanced techniques such as quantum cryptographic key distribution.

​

We're looking for someone with proven knowledge of security systems engineering in communications networks.  This may already be in the Satellite domain, or may alternatively be from other areas of Telecoms that use over-the-air interfaces.  

​

You'll need to have proven ability to take ownership of the delivery of critical system components, will be highly customer-facing and have a track record  in developing innovative and efficient solutions.

You'll be addressing some very interesting engineering challenges and working with emerging technologies, for example the new generation of small satellites and High Alititude Platforms.

​

Duties

  • Advise on and establish security requirements for TT&C / cryptographic components for satellite systems

  • High-level architecture design of secure satellite communications systems

  • Consulting on implementation of security policy, management systems and controls

  • Carrying out security risk assessments of satellite systems architectures

  • Advise clients on the implementation of security measures

  • Advise clients on design, development & implementation of telemetry, tracking and command systems

  • Advise clients on procurement of secure satellite systems

  • Support studies - e.g. the use of quantum technology for cryptographic key distribution

Requirements

  • Proven experience of security systems engineering in communications systems

  • Experience of system-level design of secure networks, especially with over-the-air interfaces

  • Knowledge of ISO27001/2 or equivalent

  • Experience of implementing security management systems

  • Knowledge of cryptographic systems, including key management

  • Knowledge of quantum communications systems would be helpful

  • Knowledge of MoD security, e.g. JSP440, JSP604
