The opportunity

This is a really nice role with one of our longest-running and most regular clients.  It's an opportunity to join a small, talented and experienced software development team, which is growing in anticipation of a number of new projects.

This is a full-stack role, encompassing design, development and integration of server-side components as well as modern front-end development.  Projects will include the development of new portals and API's for use internally and externally with industry partners.  The platforms our client has developed have been a key factor in their success, and these projects will help them stay ahead in a fast-moving sector.

​

We're looking for someone who has gained a good level of skill in developing with PHP and MySQL - circa 3 years and upwards, with experience of Laravel or a desire to learn it, who's capable of working autonomously and also keen to learn and progress further.

Our client occupies a really well-established position in the VoIP industry, they're highly successful whilst remaining privately owned and funded and they've stayed reasonably small in terms of headcount: so everyone gets treated as an individual, gets to make a contribution and can quickly see the fruits of their labours in action.  The business is very technology-led and there's no red tape.

You'll be joining a small, supportive team who have plenty of experience but who will greatly value having another talented team-mate aboard.  You'll also work closely with various other parts of the business.  Most importantly, the working culture is great: a real "family" feel (for want of a better description!)  Very collaborative, with everyone taking great pride in what they do.

The company have pleasant, open-plan offices in Theale, Berks, with parking and only a short walk from the railway station.  They've always embraced hybrid and remote working (since before it was trendy) and are happy to consider both hybrid and fully remote working arrangements.

Duties

  • Front- and Back-end development for new and existing internal and external systems

  • Working with best practices and writing clean, maintainable code

  • Design, development and integration of server-side components

  • Working with modern web frameworks & languages

  • Being a proactive member of a small team

  • Authoring technical documentation for use by developers

  • Participating in unit/feature testing

Requirements

  • Proven experience in developing with PHP and MySQL

  • Experience of Laravel would be a big plus, otherwise the desire to learn it

  • Experience in modern frontend development: Javascript, jQuery, Vue, Alpine.js

  • Proficient in a multi-user GIT environment

  • Great at teamwork with other developers and elsewhere around the business

  • Knowledge of best practices, testing and documentation
